Between China and Africa tech needs to start finding something else like gold and silver. 🙂 I’m surprised they haven’t looked into synthetic made we can produce instead. Do a reverse copy on them.

RE REM

Posted by Gold_Titan1 @ 20:23 on May 21, 2019

REM are vital in all the products you mentioned Maya, and China is the biggest producer, and Australia second largest, but there are large amounts also in US and Canada just not mined yet.

I suppose there is a lesson in latest developments with China, never depend on external supplier for such critical elements.

There is a little known explorer  in Australia, Northern Minerals (ASX:NTU) , but they have issue claiming their research expenditure , as tax deduction,( will be appealing against the decision), current China situation may help.

Not a financial  advise , DYODD.

I hold some.

Mr.Copper @ 15:14 – Rare Earths

Posted by Maya @ 18:48 on May 21, 2019

Your “It’s not so bad” could be a long, long term view… but in the immediate future it could be VERY bad.  Rare earth elements are used in defense technology and electronics of all kinds.  Electric vehicle batteries depend on rare earth elements.  Those big wind turbines to produce ‘clean’ electricity run on Neodymium magnets… rare earth element.  Many optical lenses depend on rare earth elements.  Even if you don’t count cellphone usage, there is a LOT of critical infrastructure that depends on rare earth elements.  USA does not have large, economically mineable deposits of the stuff.  Imagine an 80% reduction in display electronics, batteries, and defense technology.  Long before the USA could adapt and change, we would become a tech orphan… much more so than we are now.  If you will pardon the pun, this is one of China’s “Trump Cards” if they cut us off.  Second only to the nuclear option of dumping US Treasuries..

I see that. Good point on the distraction. He’s got people there wanting raises too. The irony is coping other people’s things making them cheap and selling them back to them in a cheap form you have to keep buying when they fall apart. It’s been going on too long.
Now we have Chinese students doing the same.
One just came out with a barista making coffee with a mechanical arm that takes only 10 seconds. Just another form of a vending machine that makes it look like a designer coffee. Another job stealing device maybe Starbucks will buy out. He’s making it with Chinese not American sheet metal too.

Re Trade war

U have two hard nuts, who will not back down…..plus Xi might like the distraction of a Trade war, from his weak economy.

Trade war heating up.

China even has a song about it meaning America isn’t going to win. A Tokyo Rose propaganda starting up. Lol This might go on longer than expected. They’re used to be getting their way until now.
Just incase I got the younger grandkids kids their holiday and birthday gifts and noticed they’re all on markdown now anyways that worked out.
I hope they give the farmers grants not loans or money they don’t pay back as long as they can show it’s going to pay the bills.

Well God has graced you. Yes someone from Texas a professional couple one a psychologist, wife a chemist and proof writer but very good with weapons beyond the norm keep them on them even when taking a bath told me about it. They’ll even look to steal gas from your car so you have to watch that too. They had a problem though after Katrina when they offered all the Louisiana victims over.
Said crime went up and they aren’t used to getting locked up about it. I guess in Louisiana they didn’t do much or get much time and now they were so some went back.
That’s all you need at those times but their out there.
I think I’d have a inflatable boat though to get around.

re your ” I was afraid it would come to this.” “The Chinese have us over a barrel here.”

Comment: It’s not so bad. Its good. More evidence globalization (US Decline) is in reverse and the USA economy will do better eventually. To me it means we will buy rare earths from ourselves, from domestic workers suppliers and mines.

The same thing happened to Cannabis. (and other things) We used to buy it from Mexico and export dollars. Now we have domestic Pot. Money stays home. Only draw back is we consume our supplies instead of saving ours in the ground and consuming foreign produced stuff.

Personally we shouldn’t be happy exporting food fuel and metals, important things that put extra demand and higher price. Better to export coffee mugs, toys, ratchet sets, cars, consumer electronics etc etc.

Why is it China buys Boeings food and good stuff, and we buy useless crap that we can make ourselves. 9/11/01 was the tipping point, and the 2008 crash CONFIRNED a reversal.

SCUMBAG ALERT-!! Typical, ain’t it? She won’t turn over her legally mandated non-profit tax return

Elijah Cummings’ Wife Accused Of ‘Self-Dealing’ For ‘Illegal Private Benefit’

Cummings, 68, a Maryland Democrat, is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. His wife, Maya Rockeymoore, 48, is the chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party and briefly ran in the state’s gubernatorial race last year. The couple married in 2008. Cummings was once heavily in debt — in part due to hefty child support payments to his first wife and two other women he had children with — but his financial situation has improved considerably over the past decade. –Washington Examiner
Rockeymoore operates two organizations; a nonprofit called the Center for Global Policy Solutions (CGPS), and a for-profit consulting firm called Global Policy Solutions, LLC. (GPS) According to a Monday filing by the watchdog group, National Legal and Policy Center (NPLC), the two entities have overlapping operations, and may have been used for “illegal private benefit.”
According to the report, CGPS and GPS “have mutual clients, donors and projects, and were located at the same address and share a phone number.”

Rockeymoore’s consulting firm was selected for a $1 million federal contract with the General Services Administration in 2017 for work on the “Leadership for Healthy Communities” project to combat childhood obesity, according to federal records. At the same time, Rockeymoore’s nonprofit group “served as the national program office for Leadership for Healthy Communities,” according to its website. –Washington Examiner

GPS was awarded over $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016 according to tax filings, while the nonprofit CGPS received backing from the likes of Google, JP Morgan and Prudential – which have business before the House Oversight Committee – currently chaired by Elijah Cummings. The Maryland Congressman has been on the committee for the better part of a decade, where he is now desperately seeking President Trump’s tax returns.

Wanting to impeach Trump. Corruption will fight tooth and nail to stay in power. As Levin said: Then they talk about the constitution they hate. He said they won’t go on his show. Yes I know he was for Cruz at first but he says a lot of things others think.
I guess their pay for play money of past is running out.

I’ve got the answer to PM shares problems

They should announce that all dividends are cancelled forever and that they will give away all their production…then they might get a Nasdaq style valuation…the HUI would be up 100 times in days…..

One good thing about rare earth,it can be recycled. Unlike the other junk China sells us.

Just another random and chaotic day in the gold mkt.–predictive of zilch.

Posted by Richard640 @ 9:02 on May 21, 2019

like yesterday, although gold is down 6.70, PM stocks/ETFs are only down minimally in the pre-mkt…in any other mkt,. one might conclude that gold is “sold out” and it’s time to start to accumulate…u wanna take that bet?
