I was looking at some of them this morning on TWC coverage and wondering ” These are designed to maximize ocean view – they are wide ( parallel to the shore ) and tall , but not very deep ( away from the shore ) … are they going to be toppled by Cat. 4 winds ?” As a teenager I was a Sea Scout and did some sailing , so I know how quickly a gust can capsize a sailboat .
In the case of those buildings the gusts are small relative to the average gale force , but the loading on those buildings is going to be immense if the eye passes to the West and Panama City is near the eyewall of the storm .
Are they anchored to bedrock , or just to coquina , I wonder ?
