Plus the military and CIA was deemed somewhat useless after seeing 19 terrorists get away with 9/11/01. Normally a country needs prosperity to spend money. Or massive printing or borrowing money like we see unfolding. Around my area NY, I see a lot of welfare jobs going on with this “New York Rising” program.
All kinds of unneeded projects to create jobs. Its as if the state in the depression era. And maybe most of the country is doing the same thing to make all these good job numbers.
