Let’s not forget that in 1967, Mitch was expeditiously discharged during US Army Reserve basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was released for sexually relations with another male trainee. Due to intervention by a prominent US Senator, Pvt McConnell’s release papers were coded with a innocent medical explanation. At that time sexual relations between persons of simular gender was a punitive offense under the Univeral Code of Military Justice. It was quite commom in those days and also until recent changes in the Code to give a euphamistic reason for an early release from Military Service rather than the real reason. This is available on the internet in case further information is needed.
