The cars they make today have hundreds of unneeded extra parts that go bad, made to clean the exhaust, which kills mileage, then other parts to increase the gas mileage. Expensive fuel pumps inside gas tanks are expensive to replace.
In some cases like my Blazer, the fuel gauge readings are erratic because of the “sender” in the fuel tank. It puts the “check engine light” on, and now the car fails inspection. $37 pass or fail, then the law says you have to fix the gauge, (may as well do the pump too) to pass inspection.
Around here is a 55 MPH limit. Everyone goes 65-75 MPH. Bad laws general get ignored eventually.
