Once over the ‘stairs’, it is not too far to the Canada border.  I understand Canada required the prospectors to have a year’s worth of supplies with them to be let in.  This was more than a single man could carry alone.  Some prospectors hired help to hike loads up the pass.  Some who could not afford to hire help had to make multiple trips up the stairs.  Then maybe assemble a cart to carry the stuff farther on to the border.  That’s the story I heard, anyway.  Hard times for Gold fever sufferers.  (Some things never change!)

I just got word that my brother who passed suddenly a few years ago step son died in a ATV accident. My sister in law survived the accident that killed her first husband and nearly killed her two yr old son who suffered brain injury’s she raised herself and involved in any disability group or special Olympics sports for her son and included him in community in everything who everyone loved until she met my brother who he bought a five acre country home is Wisc where they had a good life and their own ice skating pond. All had  sports equipment, horses and Harley’s  and  a Atv for Jeremy too.
He never sat around feeing sorry for himself and was positive with a kind spirit, Then suddenly while riding his ATV alone and due to physical  challenges had a seatbelt when  another vehicle came too close going the other way caused him to turn right then slipping in a ditch that overturned the ATV on him trapping him  he couldn’t release the belt and with the other vehicle that drove  off  leaving him to slowly asphyxiate,  There are times you can question why him instead of one of us in the family and Gods will but have to keep the faith. My sister in law is also a amazing person who also didn’t sit around feeling sorry for herself but raised her son and later her step kids who lost their mom now a widow twice and the loss of her only young grown son. I’m just glad she’s in a family community and not living in California where too many ill willed and vultures come out.
I’m not wanting any condolence but just a reminder when we see life is unfair it’s just not us it’s unfair to and how God, or the other guy can take you out anytime.
