Vitamin D ‘heals damaged hearts’

A trial on 163 heart failure patients found supplements of the vitamin, which is made in the skin when exposed to sunlight, improved their hearts’ ability to pump blood around the body.

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals team, who presented at a meeting of the American College of Cardiology, described the results as “stunning”.

The British Heart Foundation called for longer trials to assess the pills.

Vitamin D is vital for healthy bones and teeth and may have important health benefits throughout the body but many people are deficient.

Azerbaijan and the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh said on Tuesday they were halting hostilities after four days of intense fighting between them that had prompted warnings the conflict could spiral into all-out war.

Reuters was not immediately able to verify whether the fighting – a resurgence of a decades-old conflict over the status of the region – had, in fact, stopped.

The ceasefire announcement came as several European countries urged an end to the fighting, worried that an escalation could cause instability in a region that serves as a corridor for pipelines taking oil and gas to world markets.

Afghan forces’ retreat in Helmand should help battle Taliban: minister

The surprise withdrawal of Afghan forces from parts of Helmand province may leave large areas under Taliban control, but it should bolster the defenses of the volatile southern region, the country’s top defense official said.

Acting Defence Minister Masoom Stanekzai said it made little sense to spread forces across sparsely populated districts like Musa Qala and Naw Zad, where government troops pulled out in February.

“We needed reorganization. There was a lot of pressure in different parts of Helmand,” he told Reuters in Helmand, where he met local tribal elders and commanders of the Afghan army’s 215th Corps last week.

I now read and seldom post. I am certain, like so many other silent readers/posters of the past. I am here this evening to refresh  a few old memories.

We all have not forgotten? …..what ever happen to WTC7? ..In very account this could not happen…but it did? Or are we so long lost it no longer matters? The old fog was you could be a Millionaire, now trillions?…smile..long past reality..open borders and ultimate security at airports?

We  did not realize the story was old and complex….and you were never part of the legacy.  I smile. the one percent crew.  Today when  many are endeavoring to retrace their heritage, we were royal?  Folks ..the colonies were the colonies…until they became independent…. then came Australia’s new location , exportation, found history . Look at the time line and understand not just USA ..independence …..but the rebellion of the royals  linkages in continual Europe. For those not following this ..what nation still has and only HAS a real royal family linkage…??Hello..and we all still bow down to this …insanity.

Rickards: ‘Unallocated Gold Is a Euphemism for No Gold.’

I think that Rickards is correct in his judgement, and joins many others including Kyle Bass, who because of their backgrounds are much harder to ridicule and dismiss by the creatures of the bullion banks. And in some of their more recent remarks about this, one can almost feel the desperation. And here and there, the rats seem to be leaving the ship.

When this pyramiding of bullion and price manipulation falls apart, which history suggests that it must, there will be many angry investors demanding explanations of officials and regulators and bankers who will be shuffling from one foot to another, trying to excuse their lack of good fiduciary judgement and responsibility.

I just wonder if they will try to wait for some ‘big event’ to disclose this, in the hopes that fewer questions will be asked, and will be more easily dismissed.

As Rickards notes, and again I think he is right, they will ‘close the gold trading window’ and force settlements for cash at one price, and then reopen the price for actual bullion at a price that will climb shockingly higher, despite a determined PR campaign by their friends in the media.

Perhaps I am wrong about this, but to me it has seemed for some time to be all too similar to the improbable sustainability of the Madoff scheme, and other such arrangements that depend on large numbers of people accepting a proposition that is dangerously misconstructed, misrepresented, and therefore mispriced in terms of risks.
