Yo Maddog … Looks like there’s some heavy hitters behind Brexit

UK Establishment Stunned As Over 300 CEOs Back Brexit: “Business, Not Government, Creates Wealth”

In a shocking slap in the face for UK PM Cameron, more than 300 business leaders are calling on Britain to vote to leave the European Union, saying that the country’s “competitiveness is being undermined by our membership.” As The Telegraph reports, the letter, signed by some of Europe’s most senior business executives, claims Brussels “red tape stifles growth” and a Brexit would “create more jobs” exclaiming that “it is business – not government – which generates wealth.”

Perhaps this explains why Cameron, Osborne, Obama, and almost every other establishment politician and lackey has embraced ‘Project Fear’ when it comes to Brexit, proclaiming World War 3’s imminence and all the worst parts of the bible will occur should the great unwashed masses exercise their right to vote for democracy (as opposed to a tyrannical superstate).

In an attempt to redress the balance after the Bank of England and the International Monetary Fund last week warned that a Brexit would damage Britain’s economy, the letter in the Telegraph is signed by 306 business leaders in a personal capacity (and also signed by hundreds of people linked to small and medium-sized businesses). In total the backers of the letter are from businesses employing hundreds of thousands of members of staff.

Major Gold Miners Target the Junior Ones

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:16 on May 16, 2016

NEW YORK , May 16, 2016 /CNW/ – Prices for gold have rallied on increased demand for safe haven investments from equity market turmoil, and these unusual market conditions have increased expectations for more mergers and acquisition deals within the gold market. Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO.TO), Kaminak Gold Corporation (KAM.V), Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G.TO), Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (GDXJ), Brazil Resources Inc. (BRI.V)

Earlier in February Tahoe Resources Inc. agreed to acquire Toronto -based miner Lake Shore Gold Corp. in a $552 million all-share deal. Then just last week Kaminak Gold Corporation announced that the company will be acquired by Goldcorp Inc. for a deal approximately $520million Canadian.

Goldcorp’s strategy of using the infrastructure developed by smaller exploration companies to then identify and develop their mining projects. For example, Kaminak’s ‘The Coffee Gold’ project is located in a suitable territory easily accessible from Dawson City, Yukon Territory in Canada , which is located very close to the Alaskan border, and provides Goldcorp with high quality development project at low sustaining costs.

Large Gold companies with a strong balance sheet and cash can afford to buy assets that strengthen their production portfolios. The fact that the gold sector market share will remain diversified only supports this strategy. According to research by BMI, the top 10 gold producers account for only 25% of global output.

“It’s Pretty Much Open Season” – Shoplifting Runs Rampant In California After Rule Changes

snip

However, as with most other targeted laws, Proposition 47 had other unintended consequences that were not considered.

Now that any theft below $950 keeps the crime a misdemeanor, thus ending the possibility of charging those cases as a felony with a potential prison sentence, shoplifting has increased significantly, thus adding to the expense and headache for large and small retailers alike.

Safeway, Target, Rite Aide and CVS say shoplifting has increased at least 15 percent, and in some cases, has doubled since voters approved Proposition 47, and preliminary FBI crime reports show a 12 percent spike in larceny-theft since the measure was passed. In spite of that, Public Policy Institute of California researcher Magnus Lofstrom says it’s too early to determine if those numbers had anything to do with Proposition 47.

Well, it may be too early for Lofstrom to tell, but even the police are admitting it is no longer worth it to them to chase misdemeanor theft; “It’s not worth it to issue a citation or arrest a suspect who would likely be immediately released because of overcrowding” said Fresno Police Sgt. Mark Hudson.

Small business owner Perry Lutz is seeing first hand what is happening, as his HobbyTown USA is experiencing what he refers to as open season on the drones and other remote controlled toys he sells.

“It’s pretty much open season. They’ll pick up the $800 unit and just grab it and run out the door.”

DDOS attack?

Posted by Maya @ 14:10 on May 15, 2016

“Distributed Denial of Service” attack happens when a coordinated bunch of servers keep attacking and attempting to log on… so much so that it overloads the target server and locks everything out.

I thought I did!  As Wanka sez, it must have been a bunch of ‘bots running the system busy on overload.  These past days I would not get a response at all from the server… too busied out to respond is my guess.   I have changed nothing in my system or browser, but now it suddenly responds and all works OK.  I can post media and links OK, as the above train testifies.

just cleaned out .
