You will be fine without the updates

I would wait 5 weeks. Consider a small hard drive that you might be able to copy any important files onto as a backup. This could be a jump drive USB device from Microcenter, Amazon etc, or this could also be a micro-sized hard drive that just plugs in with a USB cord. Download all of the updates and you install them, and restart a handful of times.
