Cell Phones? Never owned one and never will! When I moved to Canada 50 years ago there was not even a phone booth within 15 miles. Then they installed one 7 miles away, and if I had a pocket full of quarters I could drive to that phone booth and talk long distance for a few minutes…..so I bought a CB truckers radio and put it in the log house I built using logs from my property which I cut, pealed, and seasoned, then built our log home. The CB radio operated on a 12 volt battery so we were not completely without communication. Next, in order to get Hydro (electricity), I developed my own hydro system by diverting a creek for three miles by digging a trench so I could run water over a 60 ft bank into a Mitchel Banke turbine a friend of mine built for me, which we attached with belts and pulleys to a generator. Next we ran power poles from the generator site to my ranch headquarters which was another 1/3rd mile away, and just like that, 6 months later, with the snap of the fingers and a hell of a lot of hard work, we had electricity.
There ain’t no free lunch but life is Silverngold!
