Since early April, China has stopped almost all shipments of rare earths minerals. China has suspended almost all exports since April 4, the halt has caused increasingly severe shortages that threaten to close factories in the US and Europe. China makes about 90 percent of the world’s supply of rare earth magnets. Despite negotiations, China has contended that the rare earth exports controls apply to all countries, not just the US. This isn’t a problem that can be overcome quickly, so countries will need to get to the table with China quickly”
