The airport doesn’t have a independent reading. It gets the reading off the aircraft altimeter. If the aircraft has a wrong reading the tower will get a wrong reading. Since the tower got a wrong reading it wasn’t off. There’s no autocorrect to alert them.  Although I can see why with autocorrects.

It’s a critical instrument all the way through. If it was set wrong and off a 100 feet it would throw off every factor of the flight. False reading  high your running into power lines and buildings. Too low your running into airplanes. That’s not to mention landing. They think their 200 feet up and landing and there really 300ft up.

The young are like revved up motors ready to go. I don’t think there’s too many of us looking back anyways who haven’t though they were invincible unconsciously at least one time in their life.  They need to learn how to control and direct that energy in a meaningful, strategic  and skillful way when learning and also know when to slow down and do things right the first time. Part of their test should be recognizing for safety reasons when to ask for clarification or help and not be in a hurry and guessing.  Every upcoming pilots and current trainees should watch that video with pilot Blackstone.
