You can. Chat can most certainly help you. Just keep asking good questions, we all muck our way through this together. It’s probably just as good as a professional service that charges big bucks to come to your house or remotely fixes things on machines. Turning off your computer is perfectly fine I put it into sleep mode because it’s basically the same thing it reduces your power consumption but sleep mode wakes up in like 15 seconds, as compared to restarting your computer, which takes a few minutes. I’m always just looking to shave seconds where I can.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will print it out. But to be clear, this has not happened to me yet; I have read about it on other forums. And apparently Microsoft has admitted there is a problem with a recent update. I had an update pending restart and I paused updates.
But I am tech challenged and could not begin to do the things you suggest. In addition, I have had some serious health issues lately that make it even harder for me to concentrate and function on my computer. I see you say to leave computer in sleep mode overnight. I usually turn mine off and start it up in the morning. Are you saying that is not a good idea? For the moment it shouldn’t matter because I have paused updates.
I use Firefox browser, though I think I do have chrome installed.
I work for lots of different offices
I have never been in an office in 30 years that had a Mac server or a serious desktop setup of Macs. They’re toys for wealthy people who don’t understand computers- and this is okay too. I’m just disappointed in Mac because they lied for years and years, saying they were gonna kill Nvidia and make all these amazing graphics cards, and they’re just like Musk when it comes to features, future technological claims, and bragging points that suck in stock money. The entire technological world revolves around high-performance video cards, and Mac does not deliver in this area.
I don’t know, I haven’t had a blue screen of death or an operating system problem that I can’t solve, and I’m not even technically savvy, in at least 10 years; it’s not like I’m getting attacked by viruses. In fact, I’ve never even had a virus or blue screen of death for 15 years. I mean, sure, people can encrypt your information and demand ransoms, but even then, there’s a setting inside of Windows that can stop people with ransomware, and you know, if you don’t want a virus, don’t click on something stupid. I don’t even run antivirus software outside of what comes with Windows.
I think viruses primarily come from emails, when people trick us, so always be VERY sure you know who is sending you something, and use extreme caution when clicking on attachments, PDFs, and links. There are all kinds of fake stuff out there it makes it look like it’s coming from your insurance company or or Amazon. Just simply take your mouse and hover over whoever is sending you an email, and you can see exactly if they’re spoofing and if they’re really hiding behind some fake identity, and you can the exact email address it’s coming from.
I’m sure Linux is great, but it’s like one, one-millionth of the market. I’ve also never seen an office that has even one Linux-based system.
Backup backup backup. Have multiple copies of files. Ask ChatGPT how to diagnose problems. Leverage CC cleaner’s driver update scanning feature. This software can scan your system drivers and look for patches and updates your machine needs. You don’t even have to pay for this software. Just scan your system with the freeware. This software will look at your drivers and it will let you know what driver version you have and it will also let you know what the latest version of the driver is that you should be looking for. What you do is- you go tell chat, Okay, CC cleaner found XYZ driver needs to be updated to a newer version (such as NVIDIA High Definition Audio 1.4.5.0), can you help me with that? And she’ll say sure, this is what you need to do, these are the steps, here’s where you can find the files. I patch my computer every week. Patching Tuesday is the day of the week; set your computer to download automatic updates. Sometimes it takes multiple patches and restarts. Always update your machine. You can also scrub your machine’s Internet browsing history and get rid of all these tracking files that people use on us, and you can just throw all that stuff away, and it saves hard drive space, and it gets rid of all these eavesdroppers. The reason I mentioned this CC cleaner software, is that even when I click on the “Windows Update” button, it doesn’t even detect driver files that I need updating.
If you’re using Windows 11, realize that there are additional areas to get updates within the Windows Update settings. When you click on “Check for Updates,” you can also scroll down, click on “Optional Updates”, and click on the plus symbol. You will find feature, quality, and optional driver updates in this location. This is where a lot of NET framework file updates can be found. NET Framework files are the plumbing that lets a huge number of Windows apps run, and I’m of the opinion they need up to be as up-to-date as possible. I was having a hard time upgrading to Windows 11, it kept telling me my machine was not compatible And I asked my brother about it. His first question was, Did you ask ChatGPT about this? I hadn’t.
If you’re tired of commercials on Youtube, this is the best free software in the world they update it for free weekly. Youtube updates their coding weekly, and they tries to interject endless commercials on the YT player. This AdBlock software will also allow you to hold the left mouse button down and run the player at twice the speed. It has block all the commercials forever, and it’s blocked over one million ads for me so far since I’ve been using it (they count them for you). It stops YouTube from peppering your videos with a bunch of poo. AdBlock. Something else I enjoy doing is using the forward and backwards arrows for rewinding and also fast forwarding. Content creators often do sponsor commercialsand they have to do let’s say a 60 second commercial. What you do is you just hit the forward arrow 12 times really fast and you just go right through their sell.
Always put your computer into sleep mode for the night. If you do this, you’ve just decreased the chances of someone being able to attack you by 33% of the time.
Upgrading to Windows 11 from 10 is still free. The best part about Windows 11 is that if you get an outboard microphone like all these Youtube people do for 25-30 bucks, you can actually talk into the microphone and it’s sitting there typing everything I say. It’s a far faster way to be able to communicate with people. The hotkey is control + H for this feature. Another feature I use a lot is that sometimes I accidentally close Google Chrome and if you do control + shift + T, it will bring back your latest session of browsing tabs that were open. I have this one, it’s pricier, but it’s very nice.

Not only Windows….I can’t work out why anyone is willing to pay for Apple gear…yeah sure it can look cool….but put a Linux version on a full power gaming PC/Laptop and the speed is something else.
Once I duped my Browser and found I was running 140 plus tabs….many with real time data and never noticed any drop off.
Maddog your 4:05
About 75% of western hemisphere desktop users use MS Windows. I always thought PM investors had a contrarian tendency, but apparently when it comes tech that’s not the case. Why millions of people put up with the cost and bugs of Windows when they could select a reasonably priced Linux alternative like Mint or an ABSOLUTELY FREE ONE, which most are, boggles the mind. I use MX Linux but there are many more.
eeos, I used to think that.
But after a run of the sort of crap that amals is experiencing I tried an Apple twenty years ago. Perfect? No, but only minor issues usually because I’ve forgotten my password because it’d been so long since I had to log in. Everything just worked – which isn’t surprising as the same company makes the software and hardware. Engineering wise it just makes sense. No more viruses, spinning wheel or blue screen of death, closing everything down and rebooting or installing an ‘upgrade’ and losing everything. No subscriptions.

Thanks for the Bateman. I guess that’s some confidence in his position.
Do you have a link to his article/post?
Computer….go Linux…..
Mint version is very easy to switch to…….bomb proof systems. and fast as hell.

I don’t see a time it was posted which is strange but even stranger is the date. Hit the more under the video. It gives the date. January 29 a day before.

This wasn’t a dip, this was coordinated theft.
Amals- I asked Chat but I’m unsure this might work or not
Step 1: Force Windows into Recovery Mode (WinRE)
If Windows won’t boot, we need the recovery environment.
Power on the computer
As soon as you see the Windows logo or spinning dots → hold the power button to force it off
Repeat this 2–3 times
On the next start, Windows should say:
“Preparing Automatic Repair”
If that doesn’t appear, let me know — there’s a USB fallback.
Step 2: Use Startup Repair (safe, fast)
Once in the blue recovery screen:
Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Repair
Choose the Windows 11 installation
Let it run
Reboot when finished
👉 If it boots, you’re done.
👉 If it fails, keep going.
Step 3: Roll back the broken update (very often the fix)
Back to:
Troubleshoot → Advanced options
Try these in order:
A. Uninstall latest quality update
Select Uninstall Updates
Choose Uninstall latest quality update
Reboot
B. If that fails, uninstall feature update
Same menu
Uninstall latest feature update
Reboot
⚠️ This does not delete files.
Step 4: Boot into Safe Mode
If updates are stuck mid-install:
Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart
When it reboots, press:
4 = Safe Mode
5 = Safe Mode with Networking (preferred)
If you gets in:
Open Settings → Windows Update
Pause updates
Reboot normally
Step 5: Fix a “pending update” loop (command line)
This one is gold for update-brick situations.
From Advanced options → Command Prompt:
Type exactly (one line at a time):
dism /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
Wait for it to finish, then:
exit
Reboot.
This explicitly tells Windows:
“Stop trying to finish the update that’s killing me.”
Step 6: Last non-destructive option – System Restore
If you had restore points enabled:
Troubleshoot → Advanced options → System Restore
Pick a restore point before the update attempt.
Step 7: If none of this works
At that point the choices are:
In-place repair using a Windows 11 USB (keeps files)
Reset this PC → Keep my files
Both are recoverable, but usually you won’t need to go this far.
Two quick questions that help me tailor this:
Do you see “Preparing Automatic Repair” at all?
Does the failure happen after a reboot during “Working on updates”?
My sister lost hers before Xmas.
Tried several techniques/tricks from Google, but has had to get a copy of windows 10 to reinstall. All non-backed up data lost.
Get an Apple.
There’s a very big problem with this video time stamp
If you look in the lower left hand corner everyone on the internet noticed that this video was posted before the crash even occurred, come on guys
He published the video 16 hours before the crash came. How is that possible you guys. Whoever’s making these videos in some alphabet agency. They want to know does he represent the CCP or the CIA. You will need to click on the Youtube link on the right hand side to open it up on the YT player, because you can’t see the timestamp from gold tent

Windows 11 update problem; eeos or anyone who knows about it
I haven’t had a problem yet, but there are updates pending. A problem that will not allow computer to boot. Apparently very serious issue within the last week or so. Does anyone know about it? Help!!
maddog,
correction? gap fill? or reversion to trend?
both the silver chart you posted @ 03:49 and the gdx chart you posted @15:45 show a pretty consistent trend line from late in november to early in january.
in each case those trend lines, if extended to the present, put us just about where we find ourselves as of this afternoon’s closing.

The dollar bounced hard today
I guess on the new Fed Chairman.
So, Shanghai’s pm fix was $125.61. The worst thing that could happen is that their am fix on Sunday night drops down to $100 and lends credence to this paper disaster today.
I wonder what Scott Bessent thought about all this today? Or that Bateman guy who bought over a million ounces?
If this is truly a supply problem I think we’re good.

What you witnessed today was how everyone who shorted the futures on the way up profits. Look for a turnaround Monday or Tuesday unless today was some sort of intermediate top.
If other world markets stay higher, the arbitragers will have a field day. The big players always have other ways to profit. I haven’t checked the options markets. I would guess the market maker is long gone until markets settle down.
APMEX still has inventory to sell . Buybacks are at a minimum of $20,000.
