Loading ...the government is addicted to it. Like someone on fentanyl. It’s illegal, they steal to maintain the habit, and it will kill them in the end, so the government has to keep stealing to maintain its spending addiction until it collapses.
Consumption taxes will be equally disastrous because the root problem of spending isn’t being addressed. VAT in France is now 33% on many items, AND they still have income tax. Whilst spending is uncontrolled, taxes will always rise to accomodate bribes to voters.
