More Charlie Kirk coins to come

Republicans introduced legislation  for a C Kirk coin legal tender coin. Possibly limited supply.

Two Republican lawmakers plan to introduce legislation this week directing the U.S. Treasury to mint 400,000 commemorative silver dollar coins featuring Charlie Kirk’s likeness, which would make the slain conservative activist one of the youngest Americans ever honored on U.S. currency.

Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger of Texas and Representative Abe Hamadeh of Arizona announced they will introduce the “Charlie Kirk Commemorative Coin Act” on Friday.

It is the latest in a series of Republican efforts to memorialize Kirk following his assassination at Utah Valley University on September 10.

The silver dollars would feature Kirk’s image on one side and the words “well done, good and faithful servant” on the other, along with his full name “Charles James Kirk,” the year 2026, and standard U.S. currency inscriptions including “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” “United States of America,” and “E Pluribus Unum.”

The coins would be considered legal tender and their final design would be selected by the Treasury Secretary in consultation with President Donald Trump.

Hamadeh described Kirk as a “national treasure” and said the legislation honors his ultimate sacrifice. “He tirelessly sacrificed his time, energy, and money to save this nation for future generations. Ultimately, at the hands of a radical leftist, he sacrificed his life,” Hamadeh said. “His life must be commemorated, and this coin will allow us to pass a reminder of his remarkable life on to generations to come.”

The proposal faces political resistance from Democrats. Arizona Rep. Yassamin Ansari called Kirk’s “racist, xenophobic, homophobic and misogynistic” and said “His image should not appear on the silver dollar — there is no way I would support this effort.”

The 400,000 mintage limit follows standard practice for modern commemorative silver dollars, with the same cap used for the 2025 Marine Corps 250th Anniversary silver dollar. If enacted, the design would proceed through the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts before Treasury approval.

GOP lawmakers have also introduced legislation to award Kirk congressional medals, establish a national day of remembrance on his October 14 birthday, and requested Speaker Mike Johnson approve a statue at the U.S. Capitol.

Senator Rick Scott has gained support from more than 20 colleagues to designate Kirk’s birthday as “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk”. An Oklahoma State Senate bill would require all state colleges to erect and protect statues honoring Kirk.

The coin’s timing would place Kirk’s memorialization within the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026, potentially elevating visibility for the commemorative during a broader national debate over American identity.

Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, was shot and killed by radical leftist Tyler Robinson, 22, while speaking at a college campus event. Robinson faces multiple charges including aggravated murder, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty.

Silver dollars are traditionally reserved for American presidents, but there have been exceptions for notable figures like Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea.
