The cost to the economy, and to the taxpayer, is phenomenal just for one disease. Conversely, the profit to the pharmaceuticals, and the doctors, is phenomenal just for one disease.
Btw, never donate to medical research charities. All you are doing is subsidising big pharma, which is where all the money ends up. Straight to their bottom line.
