I know it could change but that was pretty fast. I noticed the phyzz can be like shopping for the kids be holidays or school. Sales are nice but if there’s things you particularly want and a particular size you better of getting it before the sales and hopefully before high demand   because in the sales rush it might not be there anymore. Sales can also be seasonal so you can buy things on sale when no demand like coats for next year sized up in spring instead of new warm cloths  all at once. But things are changing in PMs and futures are highly reactive. Targets are usually set on round numbers and they aren’t happy till their reached.

Walking it back?

Shares on the move

Posted by Buygold @ 6:22 on August 8, 2025

Very early here but the shares are looking strong in the premarket, even with the metals flat. The small caps in particular look strong. Buy the rip I guess.

Dollar up a bit. Rates surprisingly flat. Oil up near 1/2%. Bitcoin down $800 after a huge day yesterday. Crypto outside of Bitcoin has been ripping as Trump is going to allow it in retirement plans. That ought to make everyone nervous.

Platinum and Palladium taking a hit this am.

No eco data that matters today, it’s been a light week.

ZH has two articles out today about gold revaluation. Apparently, the Fed put out a paper extolling the virtues of doing so. Well, duh…

What struck me in the other article though was the havoc it will create in the paper markets for the shorts and rehypothecation. What happens if it’s ever discovered that each bar has 100 different owners? The other thing mentioned is that it is creating a gap that is widening between spot and paper prices. We can see it today. Spot is flat while the futures price is up over 1%. There’s almost a $100 gap and widening.

The article also mentions that since the tariff for gold bars on Switzerland is 39%, they will need to revalue up near $4750. Spot plus 39%. Switzerland provides 90% of the world’s bars.

These are exciting times. I suspect this is going to happen and maybe that’s why the shares are running relentlessly higher.

Yep but if you can’t get out say you have no time after a nuke hit or fall out you can try to protect yourself by making a cave inside your house. Like a table and tarp before fall out in 10-15 minutes and pile books and anything you can on top of it away from walls and windows middle of house and cover windows tape plastic bags whatever on them. Supply you cave with what you need and barricade all sides and on top with as much as you can. Hopefully will be enough till half life day by day. 3 days to a week.  Now if you have a dirt bike and backpacks you can wear and attach what you would need including cotton and charcoal for water filters gloved goggles layers of cloths upwind and can get away from fall out. Look at the traffic during tsunami warning. But will even a dirt bike help if debris is everywhere like hurricanes. Just something you have to think about.

Since the survey and dosimeters probably too.. still learning lol.. look at the last one on that list, sparing the avalanche effect of every little bit of radiation I figure is usefulness like a first responder and has alarms. Plus over a period of time you can have over time increased chances of getting cancer.

Ionization chamber instruments are radiation detection devices that measure ionizing radiation by detecting the ions produced when radiation passes through a gas-filled chamber. These instruments are commonly used for measuring exposure rates of radiation, particularly for beta and gamma radiation.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:
How they work:
  • Ionization chambers consist of a gas-filled chamber with two electrodes (anode and cathode) maintained at a voltage.
  • When ionizing radiation (like gamma rays or beta particles) enters the chamber, it interacts with the gas molecules, causing them to ionize and produce ion pairs (electrons and positive ions).
  • These charged particles are then attracted to the electrodes, creating a measurable electric current.
  • The magnitude of this current is directly proportional to the intensity of the radiation.
Key features and applications:
  • Low-to-high exposure rate measurement:
Ionization chambers can detect both low and high radiation exposure rates, with typical ranges from 0.1 mR/hour to 100 R/hour.

  • High accuracy:
They are known for their accuracy, especially for gamma energies above 50-100 keV.

  • Handheld survey meters:
They are frequently used in portable, handheld survey meters for radiation monitoring.

  • Medical and industrial applications:
They are used in medical facilities, nuclear power plants, and research laboratories to detect and measure radiation.

  • Examples:
Ionization chambers are used in “cutie pie” type radiation survey meters and dose calibrators.

  • No avalanche effect:
They operate at lower voltages than Geiger-Muller counters, preventing an avalanche effect and the associated dead time problem.

Types of Ionization

Well, I learn something new when I’m not careful!  I had never heard of that artifact of geiger tubes.  But what is missing is the published ‘upper level’ of radiation that a particular tube can handle accurately.  And I’m betting that it is a very large number level of radiation that one would not want to be exposed to and would be strongly advised to leave the area.  So if a tube goes into saturation that is a stern warning that the level is too high for human exposure.

Dead space time and so forth.

A Geiger counter can appear to return to zero or indicate a lower-than-expected reading at very high radiation levels due to the counter’s “dead time”. During the dead time, the Geiger-Müller tube is temporarily unable to register new radiation events, even if they occur. This is because the tube needs time to recover after each ionization event.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

  • Ionization and Dead Time:
When radiation enters a Geiger-Müller tube, it causes ionization of the gas inside, creating a pulse of current that is registered as a count.
  • Recovery Period:
After each ionization event, the tube needs a brief period to recover and become sensitive to new radiation again. This period is called the dead time.
  • High Radiation Rates:
At very high radiation rates, so many particles are entering the tube that it spends a significant portion of its time in this “dead” state.
  • Missed Counts:
If a particle strikes the tube during its dead time, it won’t be counted, leading to an underestimation of the true radiation level.
  • Apparent Return to Zero:
In extreme cases, the counter may not be able to keep up with the rate of incoming radiation and will appear to indicate a much lower level, or even zero, as it effectively becomes saturated with radiation.
  • Limitations:
This is a limitation of Geiger counters, especially when measuring very high radiation levels. For accurate measurements at high radiation rates, ion chamber instruments are typically used.

Hi Maya

Posted by goldielocks @ 3:38 on August 8, 2025

Yes I’m aware if the levels that’s why I want a dosimeter and yes you have to calibrate minutes dividing by 60 times the number you get per minute. But you have to know the number. It’s it’s 5 in 15 minutes that’s 20 r per hour so do you really want to go out?

Ps In currently reading about dead space and mist. That the Geiger country could go to background levels if too high too

Hugely bullish….Trump is at war with the Fed and does not want it dumping Gold, while going for a revaluation, Trump want’s Powell out…so far the Fed has told Trump to rotate….Bessant is now telling Powell to rotate on this…..

Geiger tube sensors do not ‘fill up’.  They are a gas filled ionization chamber, and when a charged particle of ionizing radiation flies thru the tube, it momentarily conducts a tiny spark in the tube that the electronics  amplifies as a ‘click’.  Thus each radioactive ‘ray’ produces a click on the machine.   The tube lasts indefinitely as it quenches after each click.  Nothing fills the tube.  In heavy radiation, the clicks come fast and furious as a heavy buzz.  This intensity can be measured in Roentgens of exposure per minute, or per hour.   Thus, a calibrated geiger counter is all you really need.  That and a timing clock to measure how long you are exposed to a measured level of radioactivity.  That will tell you how much radiation your body has absorbed.  This is what a dosimeter does.  But you can do the same thing with a geiger counter and clock.  There are published radiation absorbtion limits and levels for human exposure.  Find the charts.  Memorize the levels & times that cause sickness… and death.  These are the limits to know.  And they can be measured with a geiger counter.

I don’t know but thanks for letting us know. I got online bought another Swiss franc, I like the 2 50 design. Pricy per gold though so bought US liberties and Indians and of course my koala collection too. I was holding back till end of the year but that motivated me although these tarriffs can change fast.  Swiss francs have been selling out but know a place the pre 33s are still in stock

Well, that’s put the cat amongst the pigeons!

Swiss bullion now 39% more expensive than elsewhere. Which presumably means that all gold will now have to be tracked somehow to prove that it’s not Swiss.

Is there an age limit? What if I have owned a Swiss bar for forty years and sell it to sng. Does it attract a 39% tariff? Or do I get the local refiner to recast it (doesn’t cost much) and sell it to him as a brand new Aussie bar?
