I have never heard of a geiger counter going to ‘zero’. The device detects ionizing radiation particles. Each one gives a ‘click’ on the detector. These are measured as ‘CPM’ or Counts per minute. Intense radiation will sound as an intense buzz. If the ‘counter’ is cheap, it may not be able to keep up counting how many pulses coming too fast. But it is NOT zero! You will hear the intense buzz if it goes off scale… and that’s a clue the exposure is too high and get away from the area!
