Iran’s parliament has reportedly approved the closing of the key strait of Hormuz shipping lane.
Reuters reported Iran’s supreme national security council will make the final decision on the move, which could hamstring global trade by shutting the narrow passage between Iran and Oman.
The decision to close the strait, through which about 20% of global oil and gas demand flows, is not yet final.
However according to Reuters, lawmaker and Revolutionary Guards Commander Esmail Kosari told the Young Journalist Club on Sunday that doing so is on the agenda and “will be done whenever necessary.”
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it was assessing the threat to US commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, near Iran, as “high”.

In the span of less than 24 hours, three rate cuts by three central banks in Europe underscored the dramatic global shift toward policy easing as monetary officials seek to manage “the fallout from Trump’s unpredictable trade policies” as Bloomberg puts it, but really that’s just a diversion for the real cause: global economic slowdown now that the last traces of stimulus from the post-covid monetary and fiscal bonanza fade away.
Central bankers in Switzerland and Sweden had suggested as recently as March that they were likely done easing, but the Swiss National Bank instead trimmed borrowing costs by 25 basis points on Thursday – and becoming the first major bank to cut rates back to zero (and in some cases, negative) – following a similar move by Sweden’s Riksbank a day earlier.
And an easing pivot by Norway, also on Thursday, was altogether more dramatic, with another quarter-point cut that none of the economists surveyed by Bloomberg predicted.

A war with Iran will be a self-defeating and costly quagmire, one more nail in the rotting edifice of the empire.
Spot on I think and something I’ve struggled with. Does it mean supporting them when we believe they’re not doing the right thing? Even my buddy who as a Christian is always pro Israel in whatever they do, admits the answer to that is no.
I think this was a huge gift to the deep state and Trump may end up regretting it. Now focus has shifted from “America first” to Israel first, which is pretty much what we always suspected our politicians were doing anyway.

Yeah I’m aware of them too and their atrocities. If this was a rescue mission but it’s not. It’s a political regime change just to weaken them or worse. What mid east country would up better off so far? Not all of them are the same though.
