There have been rumours of Xi being under house arrest, either way it’s an interesting situation. Perhaps his ‘mate’ was saying, friend to friend, “no, we can’t mount a successful attack on Taiwan. We might have lots of troops and equipment, but we don’t have the expertise or training, particularly at command levels, to go ahead. This is my honest opinion.”
