Re Gaza yr right……none of the other Arab nations want them…they are way more than a nuisance, they are a nightmare.

In one of the many times a deal was done Israel gave back a lot of land, on some of that was a state of the art vegetable farm, with everything automated, all you had to do was turn it on and do some basic housework…it was a huge site…..what did the Pally’s do…..they smashed it to bits and then never even bothered to sell it for scrap…… and went back to living in the camps…..

Ukraine is another matter….first they must stop the fighting and then look into what has really been going on, as if even some of the stories are true, the corruption, lieing and fraud are beyond epic….a lot of people should be looking at getting to know Old Sparkie…..we unfortunately do not have the death penalty…..

I do not know much about computers.  In the early Apple days programming was basically logic (if then, for example) and algebra both of which I studied in school.  Modern programming use languages that I do not know.

As far as excel, I used tutorials and now youtube demonstrations to do certain macros I wanted or chart designs.

nothin’ to it

I should add that my daughter is a financial accountant and uses complicated excel in her work and so when I mess up I can call her and say “Help!”

The problem is no one wants the Palestinians from Gaza.  There would be problems wherever they go and problems leaving them in Gaza.  That is why imo so much kickback from the idea has happened.

The so-called “leaked” plan for Ukraine should be a non-starter.  While Russia will no doubt keep some of the area taken, to start from the position they get it all is ludicrous.  Also while it is reasonable to agree to Ukraine not joining NATO, that should only as long as the new Ukraine borders are respected.

just imo

Your probably one of the few here who knows that much about computers. I remember I used to think trading was fun but was hobby trading so before the end of the year I’d hold stocks I know would go down to lower or just seasonally and sell to lower my gains or erase them before tax time. It was a learning experience to maybe put into retirement account where I have age 5 times more than the year before and moved it out to a savings before the crash of 08 but not the same as math. You do the same problems over and over you get the same answer. Not so much with the SM ESPECIALLY in PMs. Somewhere along the line the hobby isn’t so much fun anymore. Perhaps I picked up that bug that says keep watch for a sudden change. Who knows maybe it won’t be sudden. I first bought Nak at .40 I think. I didn’t know much about it so didn’t buy much, I was just  looking at technicals years back then got side tract with the real world and was actually with my tax person and asked about that one and wow it was in the dollars and think it passed my target and got out I started to watch it as it turned down to get back in but it suddenly had legal problems so I backed off at that time. I guess the problems you mentioned.

I know what you mean by just living avoiding the stress especially when you got other things to worry about. My youngest daughter who got hit by a car turning in front of her again survived that and surgery only to get contaminated hard ware. Then other complication lost confidence with the hospital told me they’re not gonna cut off her leg next and left the hospital. She just won’t want to live. Went to me to learn about wound care, take the antibiotics orally when she needs them IV but she figures if she’s gonna die she doesn’t want to be stuck in a hospital. A friend said she’ll send me her bullwhip if it will help get her back in the hospital.

Well at least he got the talks going because nothing good is coming to Gaza from either side. They can’t just leave it like it is and then when someone offered to help speak for them and say no One side wants them to go away like they never existed and take their land inch by inch, the other puts them up to things half heartedly that isn’t  going to change anything with hit and run violence by Hamas. Then that gets the civilians carpet bombed while the others then become spectators and won’t even give them a place to go or life saving supplies. They’re people without a country with no recognition while country’s around them became recognized as country’s in modern times.

Well, I have an average cost basis of 34 cents for NAK so am happy to hold for the longer time.  Also I am trying to cut back on my trading as I want to spend the time I have just being.  Trading takes a lot of time and a certain amount of stress, I don’t have much of either.  So settled into core positions and ignore.

I still do charts for grains as I take a salary for that work.  But it is easier now because I can watch the etf’s with Fidelity charting and only have to fire up the laptop every few days to enter recent prices into excel and bring up my excel charts that I designed and have used for many years.  I love excel.  Amazing what can be done with it.  Much more than the old days writing code for my Apple desktop to do charting with dots and dashes and pin feed paper.

Years ago I had GGN but I traded out of it.  My son kept his position and although he has a fair amount of lt cap loss, still when you add up the dividends over the years it has done well.

I hope that you kept your NAK position as things are working out as expected.  The class action was settled.  Although, I was in the class action group, since my losses from trading in the stock then were small or perhaps flat, I did not receive any.

However, a core position that I have held in two accounts for many years is now come to life so I hope you were patient with your position.

Does it get bought? Shares look pretty good pre market with the dollar up some. 10 yr. down to 4.42%. Is that fear or a bet on Trumps’ America?

Copper up a little, lifting RIO & BHP. The XME is higher this am.

We might give some back today, but I think we have some room to run JMHO.

i studied at the sorbonne (university of paris) in the sixties, and found that the attitude of the french (and other nationalities) toward individual americans is largely dependent on first impressions.  when i tried to communicate in french (however badly at first), i was met with friendly co-operation.  when i began an encounter with “do you speak english?” i was met with sullen hostility.

when the french (or other cultures) see someone making an effort to “do it their way” they will often bend over backward to help.

the most important words to learn first in another language are “please” and “thank you.”

He discovered some differences in aircrafts and brought up the right seat today.  I mentioned according to someone familiar with different types. Also the helmets can hear the towers. The plane was coming from the left, the person in the left should be watching. Tower never gave coordinates  I wonder if the plane they saw was the plane taking off, not the plane coming in to the left of them. Again being in a hurry. Instead of ATC having the plane on the ground wait two minutes for the plane to land first instead of moving him somewhere else I wonder if this would of happened. Fact was someone who’s barely familiar with flying the copter, a green horn, who was it that ordered her to fly around a airport only the skilled could handle and thought it was dangerous and aware of dangers a newbie wouldn’t even on a good day.

More detail for anyone interested

This would be a positive step … although the Kurds won’t like it. They are in the bullseye from Turkey and HTS.

Good day for us, especially the shares. I saw volume pick up across the board. That’s a good sign to me. I know they took the metals down some later in the day, but I liked how some short covering came in at the close to push the shares up. We would have cratered a year ago.

I’m not sure what the shortage is all about, premiums at my dealer are about 6% for gold coins. They are $5 for silver, which seems high, but there is plenty of stock.

Surely hope this lasts for awhile.

Maddog/Mr. Copper Re: French attitude towards Americans

Posted by amals @ 18:53 on February 5, 2025

I spent a summer traveling around Europe, British Isles, and Scandinavia when I was in college, about 1973. A couple of weeks in France. I distinctly remember a difference in how we were regarded by the generations. Younger people neutral to positive to negative depending on the subject, but the older ones, the ones who remembered WWII and the Allied liberation, loved us. I can’t speak to what class they were, but I remember their appreciation and affection for Americans.

Battle lines are drawn
