Two stories that came out (on ZH’s web site the last day or so) that remind me that Europe (and China’s) economies seem to be in deep shit….

First story came out and said the China is considering the issuance of 10 trillion yuan ($1.4 trillion) in extra debt in the next few years…

And the second story (for paid subscribers, which I don’t do, so I only see the headline) intimated that things in Europe’s economy are very bad…..European earnings sentiment is deteriorating.

Could it be that the US economy is the lesser of all of the evils out there????

Dollar really jumping now. Is there something I’m missing? Is there some problem overseas in the west going the dollar the appearance of strength? It’s certainly not going up against the metals including platinum and palladium.

Not complaining, it’s beautiful to see. Hard to imagine what the metals will do when it falls against the index.

Maybe. Silver pretty strong up 1.3%. Gold only up .29% or $8, was stronger overnight but looks like the boys want to make it struggle at $2750 first.

Still, decent movement with the dollar flat and the 10 yr. up yet another 3 bips to 4.3%. SM flat. Bitcoin soaring at $71K. Oil bouncing 1%. PM shares are firm at this early hour.

Platinum and Palladium continue to march higher.

We’ll find out what the Crimex has in store for us in a couple hours.

6 inches of rain in 4 days here.  This morning at 5:23am I took a direct hit lightning bolt on the ham antenna mast.  Good grounding & lightning arrestor engineering saved the radios, though.  It’s like standing next to a firing Howitzer without ear protection.

Mali’s military government has threatened to take back Barrick Gold’s Loulo mine concession when the current permit expires in 2026, amid an escalating dispute over how to divide the economic benefits from operations in the country.

Mali is considering letting the permit for Loulo lapse when it expires in February 2026, Finance Minister Alousseni Sanou said in an October 18 letter sent to Barrick’s CEO Mark Bristow, and seen by Bloomberg. Mali “reserves the right not to renew the operating permit” and invited Barrick to talks on the mine’s “transition phase” starting later this month, Sanou wrote.
