Mortgage rates in the U.S. fell for a second straight week, slipping to the lowest level in more than a month. The average for a 30-year loan was 3.04%, down from 3.13% last week and the lowest since early March.

This week, yields for the benchmark 10-year Treasuries slipped as vaccinations  hit a bump and investors speculated that the recent rise in inflation will be temporary.

Serbia has ordered China’s Zijin Mining Group to halt work at a shaft at the country’s only copper mine and to complete a wastewater treatment plant after it failed to comply with environmental standards, the mining and energy minister said on Wednesday.

Zijin became Serbia’s strategic partner in the RTB Bor copper complex which includes the Jama mine, pledging to invest $1.26 billion in return for a 63% stake.

Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said authorities in late March ordered Zijin’s Serbia-based unit to halt work on its Jama copper mining shaft.

“The state has … responded to the complaints of citizens living in the vicinity of the Jama mine,” Mihajlovic said in a statement.

In a statement later on Wednesday, Zijin’s unit in Serbia said it had halted construction of ventilation shafts for the Jama mine located in the town of Bor, as ordered by authorities, after residents complained about noise levels.

“The exploitation of copper in the Jama mine is ongoing, deep under ground,” it said.

Mihajlovic said the Zijin unit had also been ordered to urgently complete a waste water treatment plant and stop polluting the River Pek, a tributary of the Danube.

Democrats to unveil bill to expand U.S. Supreme Court by four justices

April 14 (Reuters) – Congressional Democrats plan to introduce legislation on Thursday to expand the U.S. Supreme Court by four justices, a proposal aimed at breaking the conservative grip on the court that promises to draw fierce opposition from Republicans.

Senator Ed Markey and House of Representatives members Jerrold Nadler, Hank Johnson and Mondaire Jones have scheduled a news conference for Thursday to announce the introduction of the legislation in both chambers. The measure would expand the number of justices from the current nine to 13, according to a copy of the Senate bill reviewed by Reuters.

President Joe Biden announced last Friday the formation of a bipartisan commission to study potential Supreme Court changes including expansion or imposing term limits on the justices instead of the current lifetime appointments.
