They essentially gave up on him in the ER , but he is tough and hung onto life . Around midnight a wonderful surgeon said “This guy doesn’t want to die , get him up to the operating room – I’m going to make a repair.”
He did , and post-surgery , my neighbor friend was put into an induced coma for the next four days . Recovery was slow , but now 14 month later is pretty much back to normal . That surgeon even reversed the ostomy about six months later .

Getting Old Sucks
Colonoscopy this week went well. Nothing cancerous… but it did reveal another condition: Diverticulosis ….small ‘side sacks’ on the colon that can sometimes become impacted and infected, when it is then called ‘Diverticulitis’ and is extremely painful… as I found out the day after my colonoscopy when the first food hit my gut.
Imagine having an infected, open wound on the inside of your colon. Hospital ER did a great workup on me with the aid of the fresh colonoscopy report. I’m on antibiotics and three different pain killers, and maybe I will sleep tonight.
Dammit… now I gotta watch my diet. More fiber. More hydration.
