Ukraine says to stop buying Russian gas as Gazprom halts supplies

Posted by ipso facto @ 9:49 on November 25, 2015

KIEV/MOSCOW, Nov 25 A clash over natural gas pricing between Russia and Ukraine escalated on Wednesday with Russian exporter Gazprom announcing it would halt deliveries and Kiev saying it could find cheaper supply from Europe.

Moscow and Kiev have clashed over gas pricing repeatedly in recent years and Russia’s annexation of Crimea has worsened their relations.

“The government has decided to order (state energy firm) Naftogaz to stop buying Russian gas. It is not that they are not delivering us gas, it is that we are not buying any,” Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk told a government meeting.

“We are doing this because the price offers from our European partners are significantly better than those from our northern neighbour,” he said.

It was unclear whether private Ukrainian firms could still import Russian gas in future.

Russia Says Turkey’s Attack On Jet Was “Planned Provocation” As Ankara Moves Tanks Near Syrian Border

Tyler Durden's picture

On Tuesday evening, we took a close look at the circumstances surrounding Turkey’s decision to shoot down a Russian Su-24 near the Syrian border. The incident was the most meaningful escalation in the conflict to date and marks the first time a Russian or Soviet plane has been downed by NATO since 1953.

The pilots ejected, one of whom was shot in his parachute by FSA-affiliated Alwiya al-Ashar militiamen who subsequently celebrated over the body. About an hour later, the FSA’s 1st Coastal Brigade used a US-made TOW to destroy a Russian search and rescue helicopter, killing one Russian marine.

For his part, Vladimir Putin called Erdogan a backstabber and proceeded to accuse Turkey of flying the black flag of ISIS and funding the Islamic State cause by facilitating the sale of illegal crude.

Everything is fixed and fine. We just got a bunch of eco data and of course it was fantastic! Personal spending was a little light but who cares about that?

Oil and pm’s are held in check, USD is soaring, what more could we ask for?

Gold has never held gains based on geopolitical concerns or news of any kind.

Tdy is a classic…8 am London time all mkts were hit. Dollar was bid along with SM, Bonds, Au and Oil sold off …check yr Hrly charts

Now the jerks on Bloomberg are saying ….

“The focus is turning once again to evidence that the U.S. economy is doing well, which takes the edge off any market jitters,” said Rosamunde Price, who helps oversee about $14 billion as chief investment strategist at Seven Investment Management in London. “Until tensions really blow up, then markets can cope with geopolitics. The assumption is that the big players won’t go to war over this, so they’ll have to sort it out.”

When I finally decided to see the eye doc about my eyes he said would be no problem getting rid of the scar tissue from chemical burns from another war days. Guess I waited too long Im noticing now all these  little things I missed, even on TV. Glad they told me after that they put something on the surface to melt the eye and scar tissue away. Found that out when I asked them what that was that made me go blind. Then had to walk around in sunglasses. Just had one done think I’ll keep it that way, seems good enough. Glad for others younger with all these wars won’t have to wait so long.

That’s the question. Why is the west involved? I can see why EU is to loosen dependence on Russia but why US? Money in peoples pockets? This global warming alternative energy might be more than just about money in their pockets.

You forgot about the Arabs. The Arabs are the ones who want a pipeline ” or according to what a Mid Eastern told me a bigger one” going to Europe. Eventually they will run out, then what ? Oh yeah build mosques spread Islam. A little adverse effect for the all.  Now China’s getting involved, go figure. Maybe time now to work on alternative forms of communication if you haven’t already.

goldie, Assad is a puppy compared to Saddam and Mommar, yet they all contained a wider chaos. Assad was a London eye doctor for cripes sake.

He has become the next Zionist sacrificial lamb for the purpose of water and Oded Yinon and not so much for this Shia/sunni pipeline divide.

Sykes Picot be damned because that was just another modern  Crusade dictat that failed.

The western world has no basis to be involved there. If they don’t want to sell the west oil and transit, let them eat sand. Way quicker than dropping bombs for peace.

Everybody wants Assad to step down but not for humanitarian reasons since they have done far more damage to the poor citizens than cry about which is total BS.

Even Putin according to a escaped female doctor said he’s not being that strageic with his attacks and has hit citizens. She said ISIS has turned her city Black. Everyone has to wear black. People have been killed for stupid reasons even smoking and beaten if they don’t shut down their shops during prayer times. They have killed many innocent people and leave severed heads laying around to send a message to those who don’t obey. They were going to kill her too because they found she was smuggling dwindling  medicine out to help citizens and escaped. But their allowimg ISIS to grow for humanitary reasons. That’s kinda hard to believe.

Zero hedge summed up the rest. This is just part of the article.
Our problem has been that we have let our friends — the Turks, Israelis, Saudis and Gulf Arabs — convince us that no victory over ISIS can be achieved unless and until we bring down Assad.

Once we get rid of Assad, they tell us, a grand U.S.-led coalition of Arabs and Turks can form up and march in to dispatch ISIS.

This is neocon nonsense.

Those giving us this advice are the same “cakewalk war” crowd who told us how Iraq would become a democratic model for the Middle East once Saddam Hussein was overthrown and how Moammar Gadhafi’s demise would mean the rise of a pro-Western Libya.

When have these people ever been right?

What is the brutal reality in this Syrian civil war, which has cost 250,000 lives and made refugees of half the population, with 4 million having fled the country?

After four years of sectarian and ethnic slaughter, Syria will most likely never again be reconstituted along the century-old map lines of Sykes-Picot.

Partition appears inevitable.

And though Assad may survive for a time, his family’s days of ruling Syria are coming to a close.

Yet it is in America’s interest not to have Assad fall — if his fall means the demoralization and collapse of his army, leaving no strong military force standing between ISIS and Damascus.

Indeed, if Assad falls now, the beneficiary is not going to be those pro-American rebels who have defected or been routed every time they have seen combat and who are now virtually extinct.

The victors will be ISIS and the Nusra Front, which control most of Syria between the Kurds in the northeast and the Assad regime in the southwest.

Syria could swiftly become a strategic base camp and sanctuary of the Islamic State from which to pursue the battle for Baghdad, plot strikes against America and launch terror attacks across the region and around the world.

Prediction: If Assad falls and ISIS rises in Damascus, a clamor will come — and not only from the Lindsey Grahams and John McCains — to send a U.S. army to invade and drive ISIS out, while the neocons go scrounging around to find a Syrian Ahmed Chalabi in northern Virginia.

Then this nation will be convulsed in a great war debate over whether to send that U.S. army to invade Syria and destroy ISIS.

And while our Middle Eastern and European allies sit on the sidelines and cheer on the American intervention, this country will face an anti-war movement the likes of which have not been seen since Col. Lindbergh spoke for America First.

In making ISIS, not Assad, public enemy No. 1, Putin has it right.

It is we Americans who are the mystery inside an enigma now.
